Job Purpose and Description
The primary purpose of the Gardener role is to maintain and develop landscaped areas and facilities in line with Rand Water’s Environmental Management Systems (EMS). The role involves using various horticultural equipment, tools, and machines to carry out landscaping and maintenance tasks as instructed.
The position requires physical fitness, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a structured operational environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of landscaping and site maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
General maintenance of landscaped areas and facilities
Cleaning, sweeping, watering, and planting of designated areas
Application of fertilisers, mulches, and composts to improve plant health
Grass cutting within Bulk Water Distribution Reservoir sites and servitudes
Loading and offloading of goods, machines, plants, and debris
Supporting decorative activities when required
Ensuring work areas are kept clean, safe, and well maintained
These duties ensure that Rand Water’s operational sites remain environmentally compliant, safe, and visually maintained.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for these permanent gardener positions, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Grade 12 or N3 qualification
At least 6 months’ experience in a similar environment
Ability to operate basic horticultural machinery such as:
Brush cutters
Lawnmowers
Knapsack sprayers
Candidates who meet these requirements and demonstrate a strong work ethic will be well suited to this role.
