About the Stores Learnership

The Stores Learnership for Persons Living with Disabilities focuses on developing well-rounded retail employees who can operate effectively across multiple store functions. Learners will be cross-trained to work on both the sales floor and the service desk, ensuring broad exposure to retail operations.

The programme places strong emphasis on customer service, stock handling, merchandising, and point-of-sale systems. Participants will also be required to complete logbooks, prepare for assessments, and demonstrate competency as a cross-trained sales consultant.

Placement will be within Truworths retail stores across the specified Gauteng regions.


Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

Successful learners will be expected to participate in the following activities:

  • Working a minimum of 120 hours during the learnership period
  • Gaining practical retail knowledge through daily tasks and training
  • Preparing for and completing formal assessments
  • Assisting customers with finding suitable merchandise
  • Merchandising the store according to MBP principles
  • Processing payments and purchases using the POS system
  • Opening new customer accounts
  • Assisting with stock control and minimising stock losses
  • Building positive relationships with customers
  • Maintaining customer security and safety within the store

These responsibilities aim to develop confidence, professionalism, and practical retail competence.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 10 qualification
  • Passion for fashion and retail
  • Willingness to learn and complete all learnership requirements
