About the Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme
The SAA Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme 2026 combines theoretical instruction and practical workplace training. Successful candidates will be trained in one of SAAT’s approved aviation trades, preparing them for long-term careers as skilled artisans in the aviation sector.
This programme is ideal for individuals who are technically inclined, safety-conscious, and eager to learn in a high-precision environment.
Trades Offered
Applicants may select two trades in order of preference from the options below:
Aircraft Welding
This trade focuses on welding and repairing aircraft and engine components. Training includes plasma spraying, heat treatment, and the manufacturing of aircraft parts and tooling.
Aircraft Spray Painting
This trade involves corrosion prevention, repair of paint coatings, application of protective coatings, and painting of aircraft interiors and exteriors.
Aircraft Trimming
Aircraft Trimming focuses on manufacturing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining aircraft interiors and survival equipment.
Aircraft Composite Structures
This trade covers the manufacturing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of aircraft composite components used in modern aviation structures.

Minimum Educational Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification options:
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
- Pure Mathematics: 50% or Level 4
- Physical Science: 50% or Level 4
- English (required pass symbol)
Option 2: N3 Certificate
- Mathematics: 50% pass
- Engineering Science: 50% pass
Knowledge and Skills
