These positions are part of the Conservation Department, and successful candidates will report directly to the Field Ranger Corporal.   • Job Type: Permanent / Conservation-based

These positions provide hands-on experience in conservation work, horse management, and park operations, making them highly suitable for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and contributing to environmental preservation.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for these positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric) or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a conservation-related field or horse riding
  • Proficiency in English (spoken, read, and written); additional languages are advantageous
  • Physically fit (a fitness test will be conducted)
  • Knowledge of small plant equipment such as chainsaws and brushcutters
  • Basic firefighting knowledge
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
  • Basic First Aid knowledge is an added advantage
  • Willingness to work weekends and public holidays

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:

  • Assisting in identifying and reporting horse-related ailments to Stable Supervisors or Horse Handlers
  • Supporting horse care, including vaccinations, feeding, grooming, and medical care
  • Performing general maintenance at the stables, including cleaning paddocks, trimming grass, and maintaining gardens
  • Cleaning and maintaining riding equipment, including saddles and bridles
  • Supporting staff with visitor outrides as needed
  • Erecting and maintaining fences
  • Participating in wildfire suppression, prescribed burns, and preparation of fire breaks
  • Controlling soil erosion and removing invasive plants
  • Maintaining park infrastructure, including buildings, hiking trails, and signage
  • Ensuring high standards of OHS practices

This role requires dedication, attention to detail, and physical stamina, as candidates will often work outdoors and perform physically demanding tasks.
